A schedule of events at the Stoughton Public Library in Stoughton, Massachusetts for the week of August 23.

Stoughton Public Library will host the following events for the week of August 23.

Monday

The Teens Bookish Reading Club will meet at Halloran Park on Monday afternoon, 2:30-5:30. Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to bring their own book to the park. No registration is required.

Tuesday

The Teen Space will be open, 1:00-4:00 on Tuesday afternoon. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are invited to play board games, card games, trivia, and role-playing games. No registration is required.

Wednesday

The Teen Space will be open, 1:00-4:00 for Arts & Crafts. Supplies will be provided for a self-led creative time. Arts & Crafts is open to teens in grades 6-12. No registration is required.

Drop-in Chess will be at 5:00 on Wednesday afternoon in the Children’s Room. Children are expected to have a basic understanding of the game, but some instruction will be available. Drop-in Chess is open to children ages 7-12.

Teddy Bear Storytime with Peggy Sewyck will be in the Children’s Craft Room beginning at 6:00. Children ages 4-7 are invited to wear their pajamas and bring a stuffed friend. Teddy Bear Storytime will run until 6:30.

Frank Mandosa will host a screening of “American Graffiti” followed by a discussion in the Library Conference Room. The movie (110 minutes) will begin at 1:30 P.M. The discussion will follow, and is expected to run until 4:30. Registration for the event is recommended.

Thursday

Storytime at Halloran Park will begin at 10:00 on Thursday morning. The event will be moved to the library in the case of rain. Storytime at Halloran Park is open to children ages 0-6 and 7-12.

The Teen Space will be open for Video games from 1:00-4:00 on Thursday afternoon. The Teen Space features a Wii, Switch, PS2, and PS4. The Teen Space is open to teenagers in grades 6-12. No registration is required.

Drop-in Scrabble begins at 1:00 on Thursday afternoon and will run until 4:30. You are invited to the Library Conference Room for a friendly game. No registration is necessary.

Saturday

Storytime at Halloran Park will take place at 10:00 on Saturday morning. It will be cancelled in the event of rain. Storytime is open to children ages 0-6 and 7-12. No registration is necessary.

The library is closed on Saturdays during the summer.

Stoughton Public Library Events for Week of August 17

The following is a list of events at the Stoughton Public Library for August 17-23.

Monday

The Bookish Buds Reading Club will meet at Halloran Park at 2:30 Monday afternoon. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are invited to bring their own book and read together. No registration is required.

Wednesday

Stoughton Library will offer arts & crafts in the teen space. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are invited to make use of supplies offered by the library for self-led creative time. No registration is required.

Drop in Chess will begin at 5:00 on Wednesday afternoon. Children are expected to have a basic understanding of chess, but some instruction is available from library volunteers. Drop in Chess is open to children ages 5-11 and their caregivers.

Teddy Bear Storytime will take place with Peggy Sewyck at 6:00. Children ages 0-6. Children are invited to bring their parents and a stuffed friend.

Bring Your Own Craft Club (BYOCC) will be in the Community Room from 6:00-8:00, Wednesday evening. BYOCC is a relaxed social space where all creatives are encouraged to work side-by-side. All are invited to bring their current project and enjoy the company of others. BYOCC offers shared inspiration and good conversation. Registration for BYOCC is required.

Thursday

Storytime at Halloran Park will be at 10:00 on Thursday morning. In the case of rain, the event will be moved to the library. Storytime is open to children ages 0-6 and 7-12.

The Teen Space will be open at 1:00 P.M. for video games. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are invited to visit the Teen Space to play Wii, Switch, PS2 or PS4. No registration is required.

Drop-in Scrabble will be in the library’s Conference Room from 1:00-4:30. Adults are welcome to come by for a friendly fame of Scrabble. No registration is required.

Makeup of Nature Watercolor Painting Class, hosted by Devin Mclaughlin, will be in the Community Room, 6:00-8:00 on Thursday evening. The class is a makeup for the class scheduled for July 29.

Those interested will learn how to paint a local scene of the Taunton River. In addition to painting, Devin will share his knowledge about the ecology and history of the river. Registration for this event is required.

Saturday

Storytime at Halloran Park will be at 10:00 on Saturday morning. Storytime is open to children ages 0-6 and 7-12. The event will be cancelled in the case of inclement weather.

Stoughton Library is closed on Saturdays.

Stoughton Library Events for Week of June 29

School is out, and the Stoughton Public Library is ready with some ideas if your child doesn’t know what to do with all that newfound free time.

The Bookish Buds Reading Club will be at Halloran Park on Pierce Street from 2:30-5:30 Monday afternoon. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are invited to come by with their book. No registration is necessary.

On Tuesday, the Teen Space will begin its summer hours, 1:00-4:00 in the afternoon. The Teen Space has board games, card games, role playing games, and trivia. You can also bring a book if you don’t feel like a game. The Teen Space is open for teenagers in grades 6-12. No registration is required.

Wednesday features Arts and Crafts in the Teen Space. Supplies will be provided if you are feeling creative.

Children ages 5-11 and their caregivers are invited to Drop in Chess Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Some instruction will be provided, but children are expected to have a basic understanding of the game.

For the younger Stoughton residents, Teddy Bear Storytime will start at 6:00 Wednesday evening in the Children’s Craft Room. Children ages 4-7 and their stuffed friends are invited to celebrate the long school year’s end with a story. Pajamas are encouraged.

Thursday morning at 10:00 is Storytime at Halloran Park. Storytime will be held for children up to age 12 and runs until 10:30. In the event of rain, it will be inside the library.

The Teen Space will be open for video games on Thursday afternoon, 1:00-4:00. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are welcome to come in and play Wii, Switch, PS2, and PS4. Teens do not need to register for this activity.

Drop-in Scrabble will be in the Library’s Conference Room, located on the top floor, from 1:00-4:30 on Thursday afternoon. The event is open to adults.

There will no events on Friday as the library is closed in observance of Independence Day, and the library will be closed on Saturdays during the summer.

Stoughton Library Hosts Activities for Week of June 1-6

Stoughton Public Library is hosting great events for children of all ages during the week of June 1-6.

The Bookish Buds Reading Club is meeting at Halloran Park on Monday, June 1 at 2:30. If the weather does not cooperate, the meeting will be moved to the library. Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to bring their book and read together. No Registration is required.

Stoughton Public Library’s Young Adult programming and collections is shaped by the library’s Teen Advisory Board. The board will meet Monday evening at 5:30. Attendees are asked to provide ideas and feedback that will make the library a better place for teens. Pizza will be provided, and active participants will receive credit for one hour of community service. Registration is required. The Teen Space will be open Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 2:30-4:45. Teens are invited to the space and play video games, board games, and card games. There is also craft supplies for the more creative types. The library’s gaming systems include Nintendo Switch, Wii, PS2, and PS4.

Drop In Chess is at 5:00 on Wednesday evening. Children ages 5-12 are invited to the Children’s Area for an hour of chess matches. Instruction is available for those who want/need it, but children are expected to have a basic understanding of the game.

Teddy Bear Storytime, hosted by Peggy Sewyck will be on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas and bring a stuffed animal.

Storytime at Halloran Park will be on Thursday and Saturday mornings at 10:00. In the event of rain, Storytime will be moved to the library on Thursday, and Saturday’s Storytime will be cancelled.

Drop-in Scrabble is Thursday afternoon from 1:00-4:00. In the Conference Room. No registration is necessary. The Conference Room is located on the top floor.

SPL will collaborate with Pop Up Art School for Minecraft Bobbleheads on Thursday beginning at 2:00. Registration is required. There are currently no open seats, but you are invited to sign up for the waiting list.

Teenagers in grades 6-12 can go to the Community Room for Open Gaming with VR and One Up Games. Open Gaming starts at 1:00 in the afternoon. Registration is for this activity is required. You can register at this link.

“Manitoba Polar Bears” will be hosted by Bob Gee of the South Shore Camera Club. Bob will feature photos and stories of his trip to Manitoba. This exciting, informative presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Registration for the event is required.

Stoughton Library Events for Week Running May 19-23

The following is a list of events hosted by the Stoughton Public Library (SPL) for the week of May 18.

The Teen Space is open Tuesday-Thursday afternoons, 2:30-4:45. The space has video games, board games, card games, and craft supplies.

Wednesday

SPL’s 50+ Job Seekers Networking Group will meet via Zoom on Wednesday morning at 9:00. Professional Coach Deborah Hope will facilitate this informative session. In addition to networking opportunities, there will also be access to hiring managers. Creating a job search tool kit, topical presentations, interactive workshops, ad coaching guidance are also usually featured at the bi-weekly sessions.

The theme of Wednesday’s session is “Second Act Careers.” The Networking group is open to anyone ages 50+ who are looking for a new job or career direction. You can register for the event by clicking here.

Drop-in Chess for Kids will take place on Wednesday afternoon at 5:00. Chess players ages 5-11 are invited to the Children’s Room for an hour of castling and batteries. Instruction is available, but children are expected to have a basic understanding of the game.

At 6:00, Peggy Sewyck will host Teddy Bear Storytime in the Children’s Craft Room. Children ages 4-7 are invited to wear their pajamas and bring their stuffed friend.

Thursday

Family Storytime will be on Thursday morning, 10:00-10:30 in the Community Room. Storytime is for children ages 2-6.

Drop-in Scrabble will be in the Conference Room from 1:00-4:30 p.m. No registration is necessary. The Conference Room is located on the library’s top floor.

Friday

Baby Storytime will be held in the library’s Community Room at 10:00 on Friday morning. Baby Storytime is open for children ages 0-6 and their caretakers.

Saturday

Saturday Morning is Storytime for children ages 3-7 in the Children’s Craft Room. Sewyck hosts the activity, running 10:00-10:30 Saturday morning. Storytime includes stories and singing songs.

Community Events at Stoughton Public Library

Stoughton Public Library is hosting events this week (May 11-16) for all ages.

On Monday, May 11, teenagers in grades 6-12 are invited to “Bookish Buds” at Halloran Park. Teens can bring their own book and read together. No registration is required. “Bookish Buds” runs from 2:30-5:30 Monday afternoon. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Teen Maker Space at the Stoughton Public Library.

Also on Monday is the Painting with Pop up Art School. This workshop, open to teens in grades 6-12, teaches aspiring artists to, “create a Drippy Sky” canvas painting.” They will paint a pastel sunset with a star-filled sky and fluffy clouds. Painting will begin at 3:00 and registration for the event is required. Click here to register.

The Teen Space will be open Tuesday-Thursday, 2:30-4:45. The Teen Maker Space has video games, board games, and card games, as well as computers and craft supplies.

Drop in Chess for Kids will be held Wednesday afternoon in the Children’s Area from 5-6 p.m. Open for children ages 5-11 and their caregivers, Drop in Chess gives your child the chance to test their skills against other children and volunteers. Players are expected to have a basic understanding of the game, but instruction is available.

Wednesday evening is Teddy Bear Storytime in the Children’s Craft Room from 6:00-6:30 p.m. Children ages 0-6, their parents, and their stuffed friends are invited to unwind from a long day with stories, music, and more!

Family Storytime will take place on Thursday morning 10-10:30. Family Storytime will be in the Community Room and is open to children ages 0-6.

Adults are invited to participate in Drop-In Scrabble from 1:00-4:30 Thursday afternoon. Registration for this event is not required. Drop-In Scrabble will be in the Conference Room.

Wanita Gomes will host an Adult Painting Class from 6:00-8:00 Thursday evening in the library’s Community Room. No seats are currently available, but there is a waiting list for those who are interested. You can sign up for the waiting list here.

Baby Storytime will be at 10:00 Friday morning in the Community Room. Babies ages 0-2 and their caregivers are invited. Saturday Storytime is for children ages 3-7. It will begin at 10 a.m. in the library’s Children’s Craft Room.

Events at Stoughton Library for Week of May 4

Stoughton Public Library will host events for all ages this week.

This Monday at 5:30 is the Teen Advisory Board Meeting. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are invited to attend and help shape the Young Adult programs and collections at the library. Pizza will be served, and the meeting is expected to last one hour.

Active participants will receive one hour of community service. Volunteer forms are available at the Circulation desk. Registration is required. Interested parties can click here.

Also available for teens is the Teen Space, open Tuesday-Thursday beginning at 2:30. The Teen Space offers video games, board games, and card games, as well as craft supplies. Teen Space at the library is open until 4:45 p.m.

Children ages 3 and up can participate in a virtual story time. Story Time will be hosted by Ms. Amy and feature stories and songs. Little ones are invited to wear pajamas and bring a stuffed animal. You can attend the event through Zoom. Registration is required and can be done by clicking here.

The 50+ Job Seekers Networking Group will host “Interview Strategies” on Wednesday, May 6. This virtual session will be hosted by professional coach Deborah Hope. Wednesday’s meet will offer advice for people ages 50+ who are looking for a new job or career direction. Expert guest speakers, topical presentations, interactive workshops, and coaching guidance will be available for assistance with creating a new job search tool kit.

Teddy Bear Storytime will be on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Children ages 4-7 and their stuffed animals are invited to Storytime with Peggy Sewyck. Storytime will include stories and music.

Family Storytime for ages 2-6 will be on Thursday, May 7 in the Community Room. Stories, songs, and dancing are planned. The event runs 10-10:30.

Fans of K-Pop Demon Hunters are invited to a craft activity in the Children’s Craft Room on Thursday afternoon, May 7 beginning at 2:00. Mandy Roberge from Wicked Good Henna will host the event (2:00-3:00) for ages 7-12. Registration for the event is required. Roberge will also host a Wine Bottle Paint Night at 6:30 on Thursday in the Community Room. Attendees will choose shapes/colors for their bottle and decorate it with multi-surface paints. Supplies will be on hand for the activity including stencils, stamping brushes, and wine cork twinkly lights. The event is open to adults only. There are currently no available seats, but adults can still click here to register for a waiting list.

On Friday, May 8, babies ages 0-2 and their caregivers are invited to Baby Storytime in the Community Room. Baby Storytime will run 10-10:30 on Friday morning. Sewyck will host Saturday Storytime for children ages 3-7 on Saturday morning, 10-10:30.

Carla Marrero, an artist and author from Quincy, will be at the library to read her book, “Babs and the Rainbow Realm” at 2:00 Saturday afternoon. The reading will be followed by a simple craft project. The event is open to children ages 4-12. Registration is required for the event. You can register by clicking here.

Reading Event for Children at Stoughton Public Library

“Stoughton Reads Together” Event Co-Hosted with Old Sturbridge Village

Stoughton Public Library will hold an interactive reading event on Friday, April 24 in the Community Room.

The event, part of “Stoughton Reads Together”, will be held in conjunction with Old Sturbridge Village. An educator from Old Sturbridge Village (OSV) will be in attendance to read “The Ox Cart Man” by Donald Hall. In addition to reading the story, there will be artifacts mentioned in the story will be passed around for children to investigate and examine.

Events for Children and Adults the Stoughton Public Library

Stoughton Public Library will host events this week for people of all ages.

On Tuesday, April 14, Stoughton Reads Together will host a book discussion on “The Widow’s War” by Sally Gunning. The discussion will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room and is hosted by Christine Iacobucci. Registration for the event is required. Also on Tuesday, teenagers can visit the Teen Space. The Teen Space is open Tuesday-Thursday 2:30 p.m.-4:45 p.m. and features gaming systems, arts & crafts, board games, and card games.

Children ages 5-12 and their caregivers can come in on Wednesday afternoon for Drop in Chess. Instruction is available, but children are expected to have some basic knowledge. Drop in Chess is held in the Children’s Area.

Wednesday evening is Teddy Bear Storytime for children ages 4-7 and their bedtime friends. Beginning at 6:00, Peggy Sewyck will read a story in the Children’s Craft Room. Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas for this event to wind down from a long day of playtime and other activities.

While the little ones wind down, adults can bring whatever craft they are working on to the Bring Your Own Craft Club (BYOCC). The BYOCC provides a relaxed, social space for you to start or finish that project. Light refreshments will be served and registration is required. The event runs 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Wednesday in the Community Room.

Families are invited to Family Storytime on Thursday, April 16. Storytime starts at 10:00 a.m. and is open for children ages 2-6. Not only will children be able to hear an exciting story, but they will also be able to sing and dance while attending!

Babies will get their own story time on Friday. Beginning at 10:00 in the morning, Stoughton’s littlest residents will be able to attend an interactive story time in the Community Room.

The week wraps up with a Brain Building STEM Event on Saturday in the Community Room. “Mad Science: Phenomenal Physics for Kids & Caregivers” will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Community Room. Stoughton Library Hosts Poetry Contest for Children

Stoughton Public Library is holding a poetry contest for children in grades K-5. The contest will run until April 30.

The theme of the contest is self-sufficiency and family cooperation in 18th century America. Subjects covered in Verla Kay’s “Homespun Sarah”. Kay’s book is being read by children as part of Stoughton Library’s “Stoughton Reads Together 2026”.

Poems will be displayed in the Children’s Room.
