Stoughton Public Library Events for Week of August 3

Free events, including hands-on activities at the Stoughton Public Library in Massachusetts.

The following events are scheduled for the week of August 3 at the Stoughton Public Library.

Monday

Wayne Potash will perform at the South School Lawn at 10:00 on Monday morning as part of Stoughton Library’s final “Arts in the Park” event. No registration is necessary. The event is open to children up to age 12. The concert will be moved to the library in case rain or a heat advisory.

Teenagers are invited to make their own natural beeswax lip balm on Monday beginning at 2:30 in the Community Room. Registration is required for this free event. In addition to making lip balm, teens will have the opportunity to learn more about honeybees and pollinators. The workshop is presented by Holmes Holistic Wellness.

The Bookish Buds Reading Club will meet on Monday afternoon at 2:30 at Halloran Park on Pierce St. No registration is required. The Bookish Buds Reading Club meets 2:30-5:30. Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to drop in anytime between 2:30-5:30.

Stoughton Library’s Teen Advisory Board will meet Monday at 5:30 in the Community Room. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are invited to the one-hour meeting and are encouraged to share thoughts and ideas to make the library a better place for teens. Pizza will be served, and active participants will earn credit for one hour of community service. Registration for the event is required. Interested parties can pick up a volunteer form at the Circulation Desk.

Tuesday

The Teen Space will be open on Tuesday afternoon, 1:00-4:00. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are invited to play provided board games, card games, role-playing games, and trivia. No registration is necessary.

Wednesday

The Teen Space will be open for Arts and Crafts on Wednesday afternoon, 1:00-4:00 to teenagers in grades 6-12. No registration is necessary. Teenagers are invited to the self-led creative time. Art and crafting supplies will be provided.

Drop in Chess will be in the Children’s Area for children ages 5-11 and their caregivers. Some instruction is available, but players are expected to have a basic understanding of the game. Drop in Chess will be held 5:00-6:00 in the afternoon.

Teddy Bear Storytime will be held with Peggy Sewyck in the Children’s Craft Room from 6:00-6:30. Children ages 4-7 are encouraged to wear their pajamas and bring a stuffed friend.

Thursday

Storytime at Halloran Park will be at 10:00 on Thursday morning. The event is open to children ages 0-12. In case of rain, it will be moved to inside the library.

The Teen Maker Space will be open 1:00-4:00 Thursday afternoon for video games. The Teen Maker Space features a Wii, Switch, PS2, and PS4. No registration is required. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are invited to participate.

Drop in Scrabble is open for adults, 1:00-4:30 P.M. in the library’s Conference Room on the top floor. No registration is necessary.

The library’s Adult Summer Reading Program will host local artists and photographers from the Taunton River Watershed Alliance for a conversation about their backgrounds, styles, and inspirations. Registration for the event is recommended but not required for those who are interested in learning more about these people and their work. The panel will meet 6:00-7:30 on Thursday evening.

Friday

“Science Heroes” will be the theme of SPL’s Summer Reading Finale! Children ages 7-12 are invited to the Community Room for the hour-long event that is scheduled to begin at 10:00 A.M. The event is part of the Massachusetts Statewide Summer Library Program and is funded by the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, Stoughton Public Library, and the Friends of the Stoughton Public Library.

Saturday

Storytime at Halloran Park will be held at 10:00 on Saturday morning. The event will be cancelled if the weather does not cooperate.

Stoughton Library Events for Week of June 29

School is out, and the Stoughton Public Library is ready with some ideas if your child doesn’t know what to do with all that newfound free time.

The Bookish Buds Reading Club will be at Halloran Park on Pierce Street from 2:30-5:30 Monday afternoon. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are invited to come by with their book. No registration is necessary.

On Tuesday, the Teen Space will begin its summer hours, 1:00-4:00 in the afternoon. The Teen Space has board games, card games, role playing games, and trivia. You can also bring a book if you don’t feel like a game. The Teen Space is open for teenagers in grades 6-12. No registration is required.

Wednesday features Arts and Crafts in the Teen Space. Supplies will be provided if you are feeling creative.

Children ages 5-11 and their caregivers are invited to Drop in Chess Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Some instruction will be provided, but children are expected to have a basic understanding of the game.

For the younger Stoughton residents, Teddy Bear Storytime will start at 6:00 Wednesday evening in the Children’s Craft Room. Children ages 4-7 and their stuffed friends are invited to celebrate the long school year’s end with a story. Pajamas are encouraged.

Thursday morning at 10:00 is Storytime at Halloran Park. Storytime will be held for children up to age 12 and runs until 10:30. In the event of rain, it will be inside the library.

The Teen Space will be open for video games on Thursday afternoon, 1:00-4:00. Teenagers in grades 6-12 are welcome to come in and play Wii, Switch, PS2, and PS4. Teens do not need to register for this activity.

Drop-in Scrabble will be in the Library’s Conference Room, located on the top floor, from 1:00-4:30 on Thursday afternoon. The event is open to adults.

There will no events on Friday as the library is closed in observance of Independence Day, and the library will be closed on Saturdays during the summer.

Stoughton Library Hosts Activities for Week of June 1-6

Stoughton Public Library is hosting great events for children of all ages during the week of June 1-6.

The Bookish Buds Reading Club is meeting at Halloran Park on Monday, June 1 at 2:30. If the weather does not cooperate, the meeting will be moved to the library. Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to bring their book and read together. No Registration is required.

Stoughton Public Library’s Young Adult programming and collections is shaped by the library’s Teen Advisory Board. The board will meet Monday evening at 5:30. Attendees are asked to provide ideas and feedback that will make the library a better place for teens. Pizza will be provided, and active participants will receive credit for one hour of community service. Registration is required. Drop In Chess is at 5:00 on Wednesday evening. Children ages 5-12 are invited to the Children’s Area for an hour of chess matches. Instruction is available for those who want/need it, but children are expected to have a basic understanding of the game.

Teddy Bear Storytime, hosted by Peggy Sewyck will be on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas and bring a stuffed animal.

Storytime at Halloran Park will be on Thursday and Saturday mornings at 10:00. In the event of rain, Storytime will be moved to the library on Thursday, and Saturday’s Storytime will be cancelled.

Drop-in Scrabble is Thursday afternoon from 1:00-4:00. In the Conference Room. No registration is necessary. The Conference Room is located on the top floor.

SPL will collaborate with Pop Up Art School for Minecraft Bobbleheads on Thursday beginning at 2:00. Registration is required. There are currently no open seats, but you are invited to sign up for the waiting list.

Teenagers in grades 6-12 can go to the Community Room for Open Gaming with VR and One Up Games. Open Gaming starts at 1:00 in the afternoon. Registration is for this activity is required. You can register at this link.

“Manitoba Polar Bears” will be hosted by Bob Gee of the South Shore Camera Club. Bob will feature photos and stories of his trip to Manitoba. This exciting, informative presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Registration for the event is required.

Stoughton Library Events for Week Running May 19-23

The following is a list of events hosted by the Stoughton Public Library (SPL) for the week of May 18.

The Teen Space is open Tuesday-Thursday afternoons, 2:30-4:45. The space has video games, board games, card games, and craft supplies.

Wednesday

SPL’s 50+ Job Seekers Networking Group will meet via Zoom on Wednesday morning at 9:00. Professional Coach Deborah Hope will facilitate this informative session. In addition to networking opportunities, there will also be access to hiring managers. Creating a job search tool kit, topical presentations, interactive workshops, ad coaching guidance are also usually featured at the bi-weekly sessions.

The theme of Wednesday’s session is “Second Act Careers.” The Networking group is open to anyone ages 50+ who are looking for a new job or career direction. You can register for the event by clicking here.

Drop-in Chess for Kids will take place on Wednesday afternoon at 5:00. Chess players ages 5-11 are invited to the Children’s Room for an hour of castling and batteries. Instruction is available, but children are expected to have a basic understanding of the game.

At 6:00, Peggy Sewyck will host Teddy Bear Storytime in the Children’s Craft Room. Children ages 4-7 are invited to wear their pajamas and bring their stuffed friend.

Thursday

Family Storytime will be on Thursday morning, 10:00-10:30 in the Community Room. Storytime is for children ages 2-6.

Drop-in Scrabble will be in the Conference Room from 1:00-4:30 p.m. No registration is necessary. The Conference Room is located on the library’s top floor.

Friday

Baby Storytime will be held in the library’s Community Room at 10:00 on Friday morning. Baby Storytime is open for children ages 0-6 and their caretakers.

Saturday

Saturday Morning is Storytime for children ages 3-7 in the Children’s Craft Room. Sewyck hosts the activity, running 10:00-10:30 Saturday morning. Storytime includes stories and singing songs.
